The other day, a good friend of mine asked me a very poignant question: Why did you create a blog for your English Channel 2013 journey? There are a couple of reasons I started this blog; I am sure the reasons I blog will evolve over time, just as my journey will take many twists and turns along the road to my goal.
The simple reason I write is because this is an easy way to tell people what I am doing along the journey. It sure is a lot easier than e-mailing a bunch of folks or, heaven forbid, actually writing a letter! So, in essence, this “one-shot-to-get-information-out” is a product of laziness. Well, perhaps laziness isn’t the correct word. Maybe, this blog is an effective and efficient time management tool! You know, with working full-time (and sometimes more) with my law firm, training for Ironman Coeur d’Alene 2011, swimming and spending time with family and friends, this sure is a good way to get the information out there in a relatively short time!
Another very important reason I write is because of my belief system: If I tell enough people what I am doing and “put myself out there,” by giving people a glimpse into my journey, the less the chance I will let other matters get in the way of my goal! Writing about my English Channel 2013 goal keeps me honest and shows my commitment. I also like the idea of being able to look back at different points of my journey to remind myself from whence I came. I guess my blog in some way constitutes an online diary…one that everyone can read if they so choose.
Those goals were in mind when I started writing this blog. As I mentioned, the goals may change along the way…it is very likely more will be added! As my time in the pool/ponds/oceans grows, this blog will continue to grow and document my journey. After all, I firmly believe the journey is the thing…there is so much that can and will happen along the way to my attempt in 2013, shouldn’t it be documented somewhere? I think so.
Until next time: Stay focused on your goals and do everything in your power to achieve them!
